Metoffice service for patients with COPD

Cold weather can affect people with COPD and this can be made worse by cough and cold viruses. This practice has joined a scheme which can link our patients up with the Met Office who closely monitor weather conditions and can tell our patients when they may be affected. Each patient that signs up to the scheme will also receive an information pack which gives details of what action patients can take when they receive an alert by phone.

If you decide to take part in the Healthy Outlook® COPD Forecast Alert service you will get a recorded voice call by telephone when poor conditions are forecast. This call will explain the conditions we are expecting and will ask you a couple of questions which you should answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Typically, through the winter you will only receive three or four calls depending on how cold the winter is. The calls will usually be made on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. They will only happen when the weather might affect your condition. You can tell us what time you prefer to be called on the enclosed form. This free service will run between November 2009 and March 2010.
